Days after his brother and LA Galaxy teammate Giovani was forced out of the picture by a hamstring injury, Jonathan dos Santos had to bow out from the Mexico national team’s roster due to a similar issue, the Mexican federation announced late Sunday.
The news means that both dos Santos siblings will miss out on El Tri’s two upcoming friendlies in the United States, the first vs. Iceland in Santa Clara, California on Friday and the second vs. Croatia in Arlington, Texas on March 27.
Giovani sustained his hamstring injury in the Galaxy’s 2-1 loss at New York City FC on March 11, while Jona’s was suffered in a closed-door scrimmage last Friday.
Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio is expected to use this week’s camp to make some of his final personnel evaluations before naming the roster for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
