On Thursday, Sporting Kansas City will become the latest MLS side to play out a Concacaf Champions League semifinal (10 pm ET | Univision, YahooSports.com). Against CF Monterrey, advancing to the final will be no small task.
Sporting reached this stage by dominating Liga MX side Toluca 5-0 over two legs and holding off a feisty CA Independiente team in the quarterfinals, setting up the clash with Los Rayados.
Peter Vermes and co. will be the 10th MLS side to venture to the semifinals, but MLS teams have advanced just three times in the previous nine encounters.
The latest club to reach the final was Toronto FC last season, who lost in the final in heartbreaking fashion on penalties to Chivas de Guadalajara, who knocked out the New York Red Bulls a year ago in the semis.
