Much has been made of former Seattle Sounders star Fredy Montero's move to Vancouver Whitecaps FC this season. With the teams set to face off in the second leg of the Western Conference semifinal series on Thursday (10:30 pm ET | FS1, FOX Deportes; TSN5, TVAS in Canada), comes the backstory of how the move came about.
As Montero and his wife Alexis tell the story on the Whitecaps' website, when they visited family in Seattle late last year they expected it to be a quick trip before returning to Montero's club team in northern China.
But with the pieces falling into place quickly, the chance to be back in the Pacific Northwest was too good to pass up, and the Monteros made the "easiest move" after prior moves to Fredy's native Colombia, Portugal and China in his career.
