The Houston Dynamo announced Saturday that they have loaned Erick "Cubo" Torres to Liga MX side Cruz Azul for the remainder of the season, pending Cruz Azul's receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
“After careful consideration as a club, and following discussions with Erick, we feel at this time he will benefit from a fresh environment going on loan with Cruz Azul,” said Dynamo VP/general manager Matt Jordan in a statement from the club. “We will be monitoring his progress and wish him well while away on loan.”
Cruz Azul holds an option to keep Torres permanently at the end of the loan period; if they don't exercise it, he will return to the Dynamo for the 2017 season.
Torres has had one assist in 11 appearances (four starts) with the Dynamo this season. He most recently featured for Mexico in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, making two appearances (one start).
