TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signing
Houston Dynamo FC have re-signed veteran defender Maynor Figueroa for the 2021 season with a club option for 2022, the club announced Wednesday.
The Honduran international returns for his third season with the Dynamo after first signing with Houston on Jan. 30, 2019. The defender, who scored twice, started in 19 games for the Dynamo in 2020 and led the club in blocks (20), clearances (73) and interceptions (41) in his sixth Major League Soccer season.
“Maynor is a steady veteran presence who helps set the tone for our group each day, and we are pleased to welcome him back for the 2021 season,” Dynamo senior vice president and general manager Matt Jordan said in a statement.
The 37-year-old, who was out of contract following the 2020 season, is one of the most seasoned players on the Dynamo roster with more than 17 years of experience for club and country. For Honduras, Figueroa has been capped 162 times and competed in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.
He’s entering his seventh season in Major League Soccer after previously competing for the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas.
“Maynor is the ultimate professional and a great example for all players on and off the field,” Dynamo head coach Tab Ramos said. “He is coming off another solid season and we are excited to have him back.”
The Dynamo have focused on central defense during the offseason, acquiring Tim Parker in a trade with the New York Red Bulls and selecting Generation adidas signing Ethan Bartlow No. 6 overall in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.
