Houston Dynamo defender Kiki Struna has undergone arthroscopic surgery to relieve minor pain in his left knee, the club announced Friday. The Dynamo did not provide a timetable for recovery.
Struna, 29, is in his second season with Houston, arriving last winter from Italian club Palermo. He's been a regular with Houston since joining, with 29 starts last season and playing every minute of the club's first two 2020 matches.
Currently, MLS is suspended for 30 days as it continues to assess the impact of COVID-19 (the coronavirus). There is currently a moratorium on team training through Sunday as well.
“This unexpected break in play gives us and Kiki the opportunity get this minor issue taken care of,” VP and GM Matt Jordan said in a club statement. “We wanted to act quickly to give him ample recovery time to prepare for the remainder of the season.”
Prior to the suspension, the Dynamo got off to a winless start to 2020 under new head coach Tab Ramos.
