The Houston Dynamo announced on Thursday they will appeal the red card issued to Tomas Martinez during Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The straight red card was issued in the 59th minute following a Video Review when Martinez, attempting to get on the end of a cross in front of goal, appeared to step on Union defender Auston Trusty's ankle. The match was tied 1-1 before Houston went down to 10 men.
If the appeal is upheld, the red card punishment will be rescinded, the Dynamo will retain their two appeals for the 2018 season, and Martinez will be eligible to play in Saturday’s match against the Portland Timbers (11 pm ET | Full TV & Streaming Info). If the appeal is rejected, Martinez will serve a one-match suspension on Saturday.
