Hope Solo jeered by Brazilian fans during USWNT's Olympic opener

Hope Solo

It's safe to say that not everyone in Brazil is a fan of Hope Solo.

The US women's national team goalkeeper was greeted at the Olympics with boos and shouts of "Zika" during the US's 2-0 win over New Zealand in their tournament opener on Wednesday. The reason? A pair of tweets she published in July voicing her displeasure and concern about having to compete in Brazil with the Zika virus prevalent.

The 35-year-old Solo has spoken publicly about her concerns over the Zika virus for months, going as far as to say that she might not partake in the Olympics back in February.

Solo apologized for her comments through the media when the US arrived to Brazil for the Olympics, but she was still jeered during each of her goal kicks and punts.

We'll see whether the taunting from the Brazilian public will continue on Saturday, as Solo and the rest of the Americans return to action with a showdown against another world power in France.
