After closing out the 2018 season as MLS Cup champions, Atlanta United begin 2019 seeking continental glory, opening their first Concacaf Champions League campaign against tournament veteran Herediano from Costa Rica, which is making their ninth appearance.
The Five Stripes lost influential midfielder Miguel Almiron in the winter transfer window with the Paraguayan international now plying his trade for Newcastle United in the English Premier League. But they brought in South American Player of the Year Pity Martinez, who could make his debut at Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero.
