When Harry Shipp was traded away from the Chicago Fire to the Montreal Impact in February, he was clearly devastated. The Chicago-area native had grown up in the Fire’s youth system and eventually signed with them as a Homegrown Player in 2014.
But now, after six weeks of games with Montreal, the 24-year-old midfielder feels ready and excited to return to Chicago for Saturday’s match.
“The amount of time between that trade happening and now is good,” Shipp told the Montreal Impact’s website. “I’ve gotten a few games to settle in with the new team, so it’s not going to be weird to go back. I’m looking forward to going back and seeing people that I got used to seeing for a few years there. It’ll be fun."
Earlier this year, Shipp was very candid about his reaction to having been traded from Chicago to Montreal. He said was an emotional, difficult bit of news to process.
“When I told out of the blue that I would no longer be a member of the Fire, I immediately broke down and started crying,” Shipp wrote in an open letter in February. “It was totally shocking and overwhelming. This club and this city have meant everything to me.”
It appears Shipp has found his footing in Montreal, though. He has two assists in five games so far, all of them starts. Read the rest of Shipp’s interview with the Montreal Impact here.
