Greg Vanney admits to wearing lucky scarf through Toronto FC's playoff run

Greg Vanney - wearing scarf

Managers tend to discourage superstition, while many players rely on the routines and objects they think brings good results.

Count Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney – himself a former player, of course – in the superstitious category.

Vanney is wearing a "lucky scarf" in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, and what do you know, TFC have played their way to the 2019 MLS Cup Final.

Coincidence? Vanney isn't willing to test that out, and he's even willing to sweat it out to keep the lucky scarf energy alive, as he did on Wednesday, wearing it indoors at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as Toronto defeated Atlanta United in the Eastern Conference Final.

“It was hot as heck in there and I got to the point where I thought I was going to pass out a few times,” said Vanney, as quoted in the Toronto Sun. “I do get superstitious sometimes.”

The run began with TFC's Round One clash at BMO Field against D.C. United, on a blustery fall day in Toronto.

He continued the good vibes at Citi Field in the Eastern Conference semifinal against NYCFC.

And the latest scarf triumph came Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Will Vanney wear the scarf for MLS Cup against the Seattle Sounders on Nov. 10? Do you even need to ask?
