Chivas USA announced Monday that defender Steve Purdy has been called up to El Salvador's squad for the 2013 Gold Cup.
Although the final roster has not been publicly announced for El Salvador, Chivas USA said in a statement that Purdy will be released to his national team after the club's match against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday (10 pm ET, TSN/RDS2 in Canada, MLS Live in US).
The California-born Purdy will likely miss five games while he's away, against the LA Galaxy, New England, FC Dallas, Montreal and Philadelphia. If El Salvador progress from the group stage of the CONCACAF tournament, he will miss more time.

Purdy, 28, has made 13 appearances for El Salvador. He also played in the 2011 Gold Cup. La Selecta will begin their Gold Cup campaign on July 8 against Trinidad and Tobago at Red Bull Arena.
“Every time I get a chance to represent El Salvador is amazing, especially in a big tournament like the Gold Cup,” Purdy said in a statement. “It’s a good opportunity for us to show ourselves in our region, prove ourselves and hopefully make it far in the tournament.”
In his first season with Chivas USA, Purdy has made three league appearances, all starts.
