It was a night to remember for the New England Revolution.
A pair of assists from USMNT rising star Peyton Miller, a pair of goals from Dor Turgeman, a first MLS tally for Joshua Wynder, and a record-setting night for captain Carles Gil were enough to send New England past FC Cincinnati, 3-2, at TQL Stadium on Wednesday night.
Not only did the win move the Revs back into the top four spots in the East, but it also saw Marko Mitrović’s side clinch their return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2023, in the head coach’s first MLS season.
Miller masterclass
Miller, an 18-year-old homegrown star, has shown no signs of slowing down after his first-ever US men’s national team call-up and appearances against Peru and Mexico, where he handled the occasion with confidence.
“Another great example of investment in training sessions to create the right habits and right intentions on the field,” shared Mitrović about his young star, who has been growing leaps and bounds over the year after previously playing under Mitrović for the US U20 youth national team.
On the night, Miller assisted on two of New England’s three goals, bringing his season total to 13 goal contributions (7g/6a) and continuing to demonstrate why he belongs among the league’s most promising young talents.
“I would say this: today he had a really good game ... but we also have to understand that they are all young guys," said Mitrović. "They are all still growing.”
Aging like fine wine
Players like Miller do not develop on their own. They need experienced leaders to help guide them, and for the young American, having the opportunity to learn alongside a club legend such as Gil has surely been a privilege.
The 33-year-old Spaniard made history during an already memorable night, recording an assist to become just the second player in MLS history to register at least 10 assists in six consecutive seasons, joining Preki (eight).
Even as he enters the later stages of his career, Gil continues to demonstrate the quality and consistency that have made him one of the league’s standout playmakers. The five-time All-Star and 2021 Landon Donovan MLS MVP has been back to his best in 2026, recording team highs in both goals (12) and assists (10).
Mitrović’s youth revolution
In his first season as an MLS head coach, Mitrović has transformed his revamped New England side into a playoff contender, securing qualification with five matches remaining in the regular season.
“I did not even know, to be honest,” shared Mitrović when informed by the press during the post-match press conference.
“It might sound silly, but I’m not checking what’s going on around [the league]. We don’t talk about playoffs.”
Mitrović, who has coached at multiple levels of the US youth national team system, has overseen a youth movement in New England, bringing in players such as Wynder and Brooklyn Raines, while also creating further opportunities for talent already within the organization, including the aforementioned Miller.
The Revolution now welcome Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski and Chicago Fire FC to Gillette Stadium on Saturday (7:30 pm ET | Apple TV) for what should be a strong test for Miller, Mitrović, and the rest of the Revolution as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.
