Freddy Adu is back playing professional soccer, with Ives Galarcep reporting that the one-time teenage prodigy has signed with Osterlen FF in Sweden’s third division.

Adu, 31, last played in 2018 for the Las Vegas Lights of the USL Championship. His career began at age 14 with D.C. United, starting a winding journey that has spanned over a dozen clubs, ranging from famed Portuguese side Benfica to Brazil’s Bahia.

The midfielder, who returned to MLS in 2011 with the Philadelphia Union, has scored twice in 17 US men’s national team caps. During his MLS career, Adu had 19 goals and 21 assists in 133 matches.

Despite those successes, there was always a question of what could’ve been – and now he’ll get another chance to prove himself. Adu even shared a handful of tweets about his journey and what it’s like to get back on the pitch.
