United States Under-20 men’s national team coach Tab Ramos has called up 21 players for a 12-day training camp that will begin in Florida and end with a pair of matches against Honduras on May 17 and 19.
And more than half of those players have MLS ties, including five players who have signed Homegrown contacts — the Atlanta United midfielder duo of Andrew Carleton and Chris Goslin, LAFC forward Shaft Brewer Jr., Philadelphia Union defender Matt Real and FC Dallas defender Chris Richards.
Real has three starts for the Union, while Carleton has made three substitute appearances for the Five Stripes this year.
Also invited are Academy products from the LA Galaxy – Alex Mendez, Aristotle Zarris and Ulysses Llanez Jr – the Real Salt Lake trio of David Ochoa, Glademir Mendoza and Richie Ledezma, defender Sam Rogers from Seattle Sounders FC, and Sporting Kansas City forward Wilson Harris.
“I am encouraged by the start of this group,” Ramos said. “Their effort and confidence displayed during our trip to Spain was impressive, especially considering that our two games against France were very difficult. Some players on this roster going to Honduras have very little or no international experience and with World Cup qualifying fast approaching, we are looking forward to providing valuable challenges to this U-20 Men’s National Team. Honduras was the runner-up in last year’s Concacaf U-20 Championship and will again be one of the strongest teams looking to secure a place in next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Playing against them on their home field will allow our players and team to grow on and off the field.”
