Rafael Garcia, a two-time MLS Cup champion with the LA Galaxy, has announced his retirement from professional soccer.
"I can honestly say I lived my dream," Garcia wrote in a Twitter post. "And although I can't say for sure what's next, I do know that I'll be around the game and look forward to giving back all it has given me."
Across six seasons with his hometown club (2012-17), the hard-working defensive midfielder had two assists in 45 games. Garcia was part of title-winning sides in 2012 and 2014, plus spent time with LA Galaxy II. He mainly played under now-New England Revolution head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena.
After departing LA, the 32-year-old signed with USL Championship side Las Vegas Lightsand was last with Oklahoma City Energy FC. Garcia played collegiately at Cal State Northridge, and finishes his career with just over 2,000 minutes played at the MLS level.
