FC Dallas announced on Tuesday that Hedges had surgery on Tuesday to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee suffered in the team's 3-1 win at the Portland Timbers last Wednesday.
Dallas said that they'll be without their 26-year-old captain for the next four-to-six weeks.

FC Dallas will probably be missing key defender Matt Hedges for the next few weeks.
A club spokeswoman confirmed to MLSsoccer.com Monday that Hedges has suffered a "torn meniscus in his left knee," but the club did not provide any further details around a recovery timeline or what caused the injury.
A report from FOX Sports' Julie Stewart-Binks says he may be out as long as six weeks.
Hedges did not play in FC Dallas' 2-1 home win against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, but he did start and play the full 90 in Portland on Wednesday in a 3-1 win. Hedges reportedly had been left out of action on Sunday as a precautionary measure after he felt "irritation in his knee," according to SportsDay.
Hedges was a finalist for MLS Defender of the Year last year, when he played all but three games for FC Dallas during the season.
