FC Dallas will know whether or not Turkish club Trabzonspor will permanently acquire winger Fabian Castillo by Saturday, according to a club spokesperson.
Dallas loaned Castillo to Trabzonspor in early August, completing a bizarre saga that saw the Colombian attacker travel to Turkey without FCD’s permission weeks before a deal was in place and Dallas and Trabzonspor haggle over the structure of a loan fee that nearly nixed the move.
Eventually, Dallas and Trabzonspor agreed to a loan deal through the end of 2016. Trabzonspor paid Dallas $3 million to complete the loan deal, and hold a $1 million option to permanently acquire Castillo. The deadline for Trabzonspor to buy Castillo outright is Saturday. If they decline their option, Castillo’s rights would return to Dallas.
ESPN.com.mx reported on Wednesday that Club America are interested in signing Castillo, and that the Mexican giants would be his “first choice” if Trabzonspor declines his option and his rights return to Dallas.
The FCD spokesperson indicated on Wednesday that it’s possible FCD would look to sell Castillo if he’s not permanently acquired by Trabzonspor.
Castillo, 24, has zero goals and one assist in 14 games in league and cup competition for Trabzonspor, who are currently in 13th place in the 18-team Turkish Super Lig. He had 34 goals and 30 assists in 159 regular season appearances across parts of six seasons with FC Dallas, including nine goals and nine assists to pick up an MLS Best XI honor in 2015.
