FC Dallas Homegrown midfielder Tanner Tessmann is set to train with Bayern Munich during the MLS offseason, ESPN reports.
The 19-year-old, who signed a Homegrown player contract on Feb. 27, enjoyed a breakout first year in MLS. The physically gifted defensive midfielder made nine starts in 19 appearances and landed on the MLS 22 Under 22 presented by BODYARMOR 2020 rankings. He famously passed up a chance to kick for the Clemson football team to sign the Homegrown deal. He also spurned European interest to sign with FC Dallas.
The timing of his departure for Germany is a bit fluid, ESPN reports, with the chance Tessmann is called into either the US men’s national team or the US U-23 camps later this month. If so, Tessmann would train with the German powerhouse shortly thereafter.
Tessmann is the latest FC Dallas player to train with Bayern Munich. In Nov. 2019, Edwin Cerrillo, Ricardo Pepi, Bryan Reynolds and academy product David Rodriguez spent two weeks training with Bayern Munich as part of the two clubs Elite Player Development Partnership.
The previous year, Reynolds and Chris Richards joined Bayern on a pair of 10-day training stints. Richards was transferred to Bayern Munich in Jan. 2019. The 20-year old center back, who has primarily played with FC Bayern II, has made eight appearances for Bayern Munich.
Richards and Tessmann were both part of Alabama's Olympic Development Program.
