No one in MLS churns out Homegrown Players at the rate of FC Dallas, and the North Texans handed one of their youngest prospects his debut MLS start on Saturday night.
Head coach and former academy director Luchi Gonzalez named Bryan Reynolds, 18, to the FCD XI for the first time for their visit to the Montreal Impact, one of five HGPs in the lineup, with three more on the bench. Signed at the age of 15 in November 2016, Reynolds is the youngest signing in club history.
A versatile player, Reynolds was tasked with a wide attacking role in Montreal while fellow HGPs Jesus Ferreira, also 18, and Paxton Pomykal, 19, filled the two "free 8" advanced central slots in Gonzalez's system. Fullback Reggie Cannon and goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez worked their usual roles in the rearguard.
FCD have signed an MLS-record 26 Homegrowns over the years, and have set a number of records in recent seasons with their willingness to rely on them for first-team minutes.
