One of the most influential attacking players for FC Dallas in 2018 says he's not going anywhere.
Attacking star Maxi Urruti, who registered 8 goals and 11 assists in 2018, has been linked with Argentine club Newell's Old Boys in recent weeks, but he's reminded a radio show in Argentina that he has another two years on his deal with FC Dallas.
Ramiro Ferreyra, who covers Newell's, tweeted about Urruti's radio appearance, citing the player's comments: "Maxi Urruti will not be returning to La Lepra [Newell's club nickname] in this transfer window. The forward, speaking to Ultima Jugada, declared that he has two years left on his contract with FC Dallas which he wishes to honor."
The reporter added that the two clubs are far apart when it comes to the economics of any potential transfer deal.
Urruti's statement backs what his representative, Nestor Rozin, told the same station last week, projecting that any return by Urruti to Newell's is likely four to five years away. Also playing a factor is that Urruti is apparently close to obtaining his US citizenship, according to Rozin.
It was a statement by a Newell's vice president earlier this month that originally gave rise to the transfer storm that has now seen the player and his representative clarify the situation.
The 27-year-old Urruti has played a number of positions across the attacking front for FCD over three seasons, including at attacking midfield in 2018. He signed a new three-year deal with the Texas club in March 2018.
Urruti came through the Newell's system and eventually broke through for the Rosario-based team's senior side before making the move to MLS where he has also played for Toronto FC (2013) and Portland Timbers (2013-'15).
