FC Cincinnati pick up Derrick Etienne Jr. on loan from New York Red Bulls

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan

FC Cincinnati continued their flurry of transfer-deadline activity with the acquisition of Derrick Etienne Jr. on loan from the New York Red Bulls for the rest of the season in exchange for FCC’s 2020 third-round SuperDraft selection, which the club acquired last week from the Chicago Fire as part of the acquisition of Andrew Gutman.

The deal for Etienne was completed ahead of the close of the MLS secondary transfer window on Wednesday and includes an option for Cincinnati to purchase the attacker permanently at season’s end. A Haitian international, Etienne has earned 17 caps for the Caribbean nation and was a key cog in their upstart run at this year's Gold Cup.

Etienne, 22, joins Cincy after five seasons in the RBNY organization, where he first signed as a Homegrown Player in 2015. This season he’s made 11 MLS appearances to date, including five starts, has scored one goal and added one assist.

“We’re excited with the opportunity to add Derrick to our organization,” Cincinnati GM Gerard Nijkamp said in a club release. “He fits the profile of a player that we’ve been looking to add at the winger position and we believe he’ll strengthen that position group. We look forward to welcoming him to Cincinnati and seeing him compete within our squad.”
