TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension
Kendall Waston and FC Cincinnati have agreed to a contract extension, the club announced Thursday.
Waston, 31, was named the expansion club's first captain in MLS and has made 13 starts for his new club this season. Prior to his time in Cincy, Waston was twice named to MLS Best XI (2015, 2017) as a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
“I’m really excited to sign a contract extension with FC Cincinnati,” Waston said in a club statement. “From December, I was really looking forward to joining the club and I’m looking forward to staying here. I’m really happy.”
Cincy recently signed Dutch center back Maikel van der Werff as GM Gerard Nijkamp begins to put his imprint on the squad. Waston is clearly an integral part of the team now and in the future.
“We are pleased that Kendall will remain an FC Cincinnati player for the foreseeable future,” Nijkamp said. “He is a true professional who leads by example on and off the pitch and is committed to what we are building at FC Cincinnati."
Cincy's inaugural season has come with some difficulties, as the club currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference with 14 points after 19 games.
