TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer
Joe Gyau is coming home.
FC Cincinnati on Thursday announced their acquisition of the US winger from German Dritte Liga side MSV Duisburg, completing the transfer just before the close of the MLS secondary transfer window on Wednesday night.
Gyau, 26, arrives in MLS after spending the entirety of his nine-year professional career to date in Germany, where he served at Hoffenheim (2011-14), FC St. Pauli (2012-13), Borussia Dortmund (2014-16), SG Sonnenhof Großaspach (2017-18) and Duisburg (2018-19). In 2018-19, Gyau made 20 appearances for Duisburg, including seven starts, while scoring two goals and an assist.
“We are delighted to welcome Joe to FC Cincinnati,” Cincinnati GM Gerard Nijkamp said in a club release. “We feel his ability and pace are a good fit for our style of play and he will provide another attacking option on our roster.”
A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Gyau has earned three caps with the US men’s national team dating back to 2014; after several years marred by injury woes, he returned to the USMNT picture with a call-up from Gregg Berhalter this spring.
