TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
FC Cincinnati have acquired forward Brenner from Sao Paulo as a Young Designated Player, the club announced Tuesday.
Brenner, 21, is a highly-regarded Brazilian youth international. He broke through at Sao Paulo in recent years and enjoyed his best season so far as a pro this year, with 11 goals and three assists in 27 appearances. He has been referred to at times as the "new Gabriel Jesus" in Brazil.
Brenner will occupy an international roster spot and be added to the club's roster upon the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate when the primary transfer window opens on Feb. 10.
“Brenner is an important addition to our team as we build for the upcoming year, but also into future seasons,” FC Cincinnati general manager Gerard Nijkamp said in a team release. “Despite his young age, he has already shown his quality on the highest level in Brazil with Sao Paulo and has the potential to become a top young talent in Major League Soccer. This move is a testament to the commitment of our ownership group to invest in young talents and bring winning soccer to Cincinnati.”
Brenner was on Brazil's U-17 World Cup squad in 2017, where he was tied for the team lead in goals at the tournament. Brazil finished third at the tournament.
The forward has mainly played through the center during his young career, though can also play on either wing.

Brenner joins Jurgen Locadia, Brandon Vazquez, Franko Kovacevic and Calvin Harris as options up top for Jaap Stam. Cincy struggled to create much attacking in 2020, finishing bottom of MLS in goals scored.
