Exports: US Under-23 goalkeeper Cody Cropper to leave MK Dons

US U-23 national team goalkeeper Cody Cropper applauds US fans

US youth international Cody Cropper will not have his contract option exercised by English club MK Dons when his deal expires at the end of June, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Cropper made 12 appearances in all competitions in his one season at MK Dons, who were relegated from the Championship to League One after finishing last season in 23rd place in England’s second flight. He’ll be a free agent when his contract ends on June 30.

Cropper, who spent three years at Southampton before moving to MK Dons last June, represented the US at the 2013 Under-20 World Cup and played the second-half of the US U-23’s 1-1 draw at Colombia in the first leg of their Olympic Qualifying playoff series in March after starter Ethan Horvath left due to injury.

In March, Cropper said he’d be interested in playing for incoming MLS clubs Atlanta United FC and Minnesota United FC. He was born in Atlanta and lived in Georgia until he was 12, when he moved to the Minneapolis area.
