Former Major League Soccer coach Frank Yallop is reportedly set to replace Eric Wynalda as Las Vegas Lights FC manager.
Yallop, 52, who guided the San Jose Earthquakes to a pair of MLS Cup titles, is set to be named the USL Championship side’s new coach, according to ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle. He would be the team’s fourth coach in less than three seasons.
Wynalda, who was fired as the club’s coach June 18, congratulated Yallop on the apparent appointment. Lights FC owner Brett Lashbrook said the club will formally announce their new coach Monday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Yallop’s greatest managerial success came with the Earthquakes, who he guided to the MLS Cup crown in 2001 and 2003 and the Supporters’ Shield in a second stint in 2012. As Quakes manager, he was also twice named MLS Coach of the Year (2001, 2012). Yallop also coached the LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire FC, as well as the Canadian national team.
Yallop most recently served as the general manager of Fresno FC, which folded following the 2019 season and was the head coach of Phoenix Rising for parts of two seasons until resigning for family reasons in 2017.
