European Championships postponed until June 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic

Euro 2020 is now Euro 2021.


The UEFA European Football Championship is the latest soccer tournament to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday, UEFA announced the tournament will be delayed a year and be played in the summer of 2021.


Twenty teams have qualified and four others will join after qualifying playoffs.


Several MLS players were likely to be part of the competition.


Minnesota United’s duo of Rasmus Schuller and Robin Lod as well as Jukka Raitala and Lassi Lappalainen from the Montreal Impact played a big role in helping Finland reach the Euros for the first time ever.


FC Dallas forward Zdenek Ondrasek scored a critical goal for the Czech Republic in a 2-1 qualifying win over England, Kobra’s first international goal on his international debut


Seattle Sounders midfielder Gustav Svensson competed in seven of Sweden’s qualifying matches, LAFC goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer was called into Netherland’s squad for four European qualifiers.


New York City FC’sAlexandru Mitrita had two goals and set up another goal in four qualifying appearances for Romania, which were set to face Iceland in the qualifying playoffs.


Sporting Kanas City center back Botond Barath played the full 90 minutes in six Group E matches for Hungary, which were scheduled to meet Bulgaria in the qualifying playoffs.


Real Salt Lake’sAlbert Rusnak, who scored in a 2-0 win over Hungary, and midfielder Jan Gregus from Minnesota United were part of the Slovakia squad that reached the qualifying playoffs against the Republic of Ireland.


Aleksandar Katai of the LA Galaxy competed in three qualifying matches for Serbia, which reached the qualifying playoffs against Ola Kamara and Norway. The D.C. United forward played in four qualifying matches, scoring in a 3-3 draw against Sweden.


Inter Miami CF’sLewis Morgan and Johnny Russell from Sporting Kansas City will likely be part of Scotland’s squad that meets Israel in the qualifying playoffs. Russell appeared in five matches during qualifying, scoring in a 2-0 win over San Marino, while Morgan was on the bench for four qualifying matches.


The San Jose Earthquakes duo of Vako and Guram Kashia were regular starters for Georgia, which will meet Belarus in the qualifying semifinals.
