DeAndre Yedlin - US national team - May 28, 2016

Update (Wednesday, 11:50 am ET)

Newcastle United officially announced DeAndre Yedlin's arrival on Wednesday morning.

"Newcastle is such a big and historic club, and I'm excited to have the honour of playing for them. Hopefully I can do great things here," said Yedlin. "I'm excited to learn under Rafa Benitez as well. He has an amazing resume and I know he will help improve me a lot."

Yedlin will be replacing Daryl Janmaat at right back for the Magpies, after the Dutch international made his way to Watford.

"We have known for a little while of Watford's interest in Daryl Janmaat, so it was important for us to bring in a replacement immediately," said head coach Rafa Benitez. "In DeAndre we have a player who knows English football well. He has good experience, an attacking mentality, ability and great pace.

"I think he can do really well for us and will give us good competition on the right."

Yedlin will be playing under a legendary coach in Benitez, whose previous job was with world power Real Madrid. He has previously coached at Valencia, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Napoli.

Update (Wednesday, 11:15 am ET)

Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep reported on Wednesday morning that Yedlin has completed his move to Newcastle from Tottenham after completing a medical and signing a five-year deal.

According to Galarcep, Newcastle beat out fellow Championship club Aston Villa and English Premier League side Sunderland – where Yedlin played on loan last season – in the chase for the 23-year-old right back.

Galarcep also reported that the Seattle Sounders, where Yedlin played in 2013 and 2014, will receive $600,000 as part of a sell-on clause included in Yedlin’s initial move to Tottenham.

DeAndre Yedlin is reportedly set to leave English Premier League club Tottenham for Newcastle, according to multiple reports.

Goal.com’s Seth Vertelney reported on Tuesday that Newcastle will pay Tottenham 5 million pounds ($6.6m) for Yedlin.

The US national team defender was spotted arriving at the Newcastle airport on Tuesday. He spent last season on loan at EPL club Sunderland, playing a major role for the club as they narrowly avoided relegation.

Newcastle weren’t so lucky, finishing just two points behind rival Sunderland as they made the drop to the Championship. The club is currently 2-2-0 in the young season, good for seventh-place in England’s second-division.

Yedlin, 23, moved to Tottenham from the Seattle Sounders following the 2014 MLS season. The Seattle native, who has 39 career caps with the US men’s national team, made just one league appearance in his time with the London club.
