TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
D.C. United have signed veteran striker Quincy Amarikwa, the club announced Friday. Amarikwa is now the second forward on D.C.'s roster and United will be the sixth MLS club he has featured for over his career.
Amarikwa, 31, last played for the Montreal Impact in 2018 after being acquired from the San Jose Earthquakes. Between the Quakes and Impact, he appeared in 24 matches (eight starts) and scored one goal.
“We are excited to add Quincy to the roster ahead of the 2019 season,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said in a team statement. "He has over 10 years of MLS experience and is going to be a valuable attacking option for us this season. We’re looking forward to adding that experience and depth to our roster ahead of our March 3 season opener.”
Amarikwa has made a total of 200 appearances since making his debut in 2009. His best season came in 2014 with the Chicago Fire, when he set career-highs in games played (31), goals (8) and assists (5).
He joins Wayne Rooney as the club's only two strikers ahead of the 2019 season, which they open on Sunday against Atlanta United (6 pm ET | ESPN in US, TSN2 in Canada).
