TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
D.C. United have signed forward Jacob Murrell through the 2026 MLS season with an option for 2027, the club announced Friday.
Last month, the Black-and-Red selected Murrell No. 7 overall (first round) in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas after his standout career at nearby Georgetown University.
"Jacob is an exciting young talent who is coming off an impressive season with Georgetown University," D.C. United general manager & chief soccer officer Ally Mackay said in a statement.
"He’s a creative player who has an eye for goal and he has all the tools to be successful at the next level. We are excited to welcome Jacob to the first team and look forward to his continued development and growth as a professional."
A Maryland native, Murrell was named the 2022 Gatorade National Player of the Year in high school. He had 18 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances (34 starts) for Georgetown across two seasons.
The 19-year-old joins a D.C. United striker corps that’s led by Christian Benteke, increasing depth for new head coach Troy Lesesne.
D.C. United open their 2024 campaign on Feb. 24 at Audi Field against the New England Revolution (7:30 pm ET | MLS Season Pass). They're chasing the club's first Audi MLS Cup Playoffs trip since 2019.
