Daryl Dike continues to make the most of his time on loan at Championship side Barnsley, scoring twice in his team's 3-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers.
The first came in the 49th minute, doubling Barnsley's advantage. The play started on a corner, with the ball being cleared out of the box but not far enough for Barnsley to start another play. Eventually, the ball found Mads Andersen on the left side of the box, who then headed it to Dike, who was right in front of goal. From there, the on-loan Orlando City player headed it in for 2-0.
Dike scored his second goal in the 81st minute, giving Barnsley just enough of a cushion that a late goal from Wycombe did not put the result in doubt. Callum Brittain made a run down the right wing before crossing it into the box. Simultaneously, Dike made his way from the edge of the penalty area to the goal, and was there to receive Brittain's ball and score from close range.
The goals mean Dike has scored five times in 11 matches in all competitions since joining Barnsley in February. The result has the team in fifth place in the Championship and in a position to make the promotion playoffs. They are currently eight points behind Watford, who currently sit second place and in a spot to be automatically promoted to the Premier League.
Dike's loan will end at the end of Barnsley's 2020-21 season, and Orlando expect him back when the loan is over. It does not mean the player is not attracting suitors in Europe ā the BBC reported last week that Orlando rejected a $10 million offer from a top six Premier League club.
