TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Re-signed
The evergreen DaMarcus Beasley will be back for a 20th professional season in 2019 after the Houston Dynamo announced that the 36-year-old free agent left back has re-signed with the club.
Beasley has played for the Dynamo since joining them midway during the 2014 season and he captained the club to a 2018 U.S. Open Cup title, which also clinched a 2019 Concacaf Champions League berth for the club.
“The Dynamo have to face a very challenging schedule [in 2019] and DaMarcus has been an outstanding pillar for our team, helping us create a mentality of competing to win at all times," head coach Wilmer Cabrera said in a club statement.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana native started all 26 regular season matches in which he appeared last season, scoring a goal and adding two assists.
"He is a key leader in our team, and a true professional in every sense of the word," Dynamo senior VP and GM Matt Jordan said. "His winning mentality and quality as a player will be important for our group as we prepare for the 2019 season.”
The former US national team star began his professional career in 2000 with the Chicago Fire (2000-'04) and he played for PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands), Manchester City (England), Glasgow Rangers (Scotland), Hannover 96 (Germany) and Puebla (Mexico) before returning to MLS in July 2014 with Houston.
Alongside new center back Aljaz Struna, right back Chris Duvall and defensive midfielder Matias Vera, all key offseason acquisitions thus far, Beasley will look to help the club shore up its defensive showing in 2019.
