As the Philadelphia Union's search for a playmaker continues, Jonathan Tannenwald of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes the club will give 18-year-old American Brenden Aaronson an extended look in the role during preseason.
Aaronson, who grew up in nearby Medford N.J., signed a Homegrown Player contract for the Union in September after spending most of that year with their USL side Bethlehem Steel. And Union coach Jim Curtin is ready to see what he can do at the MLS level at the No. 10 role, a position the United States has failed to produce in large quantities.
"He has the ability to turn, to play a final pass, has the work rate to cover ground and run, and break up plays as well," Curtin said. "We'll give him the keys, so to speak, at certain moments of the preseason and see how he handles it."
