TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
Columbus Crew SC have re-acquired defender Waylon Francis from the Seattle Sounders for $50,000 in General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Tuesday. Francis returns to the Crew little more than a year after being traded to the Sounders.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, young Designated Player Milton Valenzuela suffered a "serious" knee injury in training.
Francis, 28, made 11 appearances (5 starts) for the Sounders in 2018. He spent 2014-17 with the Crew, featuring in 83 matches with 18 assists.
“We are pleased to welcome Waylon back to the Club,” Crew SC president Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. “In Waylon, we gain a talented, MLS veteran who adds strong versatility and who knows what it takes to compete in this League as well as at the National Team level. His familiarity with the organization will be beneficial as we re-incorporate him back into this roster and we look forward to his contributions as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
A Costa Rican international, Francis featured for his country in the Ticos' 2-0 loss to the US men's national team last weekend.
