Columbus Crew SC, Toronto FC swap Patrick Mullins, Jordan Hamilton

Patrick Mullins - Columbus Crew SC

Thursday, 10:15am ET: Toronto FC and Columbus Crew SC have agreed to swap forwards, among other assets. TFC have acquired Patrick Mullins in exchange for Jordan Hamilton, an international roster spot for the 2019 MLS season, $50,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and the Right of First Refusal for an unnamed player, the clubs announced Thursday.

“We’re excited to welcome Jordan to Columbus Crew SC,” said Crew SC President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “In Jordan we have a young forward who has not only won trophies at the club level, but who also has experience competing at the international level with Canada and will provide depth in our attack. At the same time, we would like to thank Patrick for his contributions to the Club and to the Columbus community during his time with us. We thought this trade gave us a good chance to improve our roster while also presenting a good opportunity for Patrick. We wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career.”

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Toronto FC and Columbus Crew SC have reportedly reached an agreement on a trade that would send Patrick Mullins to Toronto in exchange for Jordan Hamilton and an international slot for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Nicolas Martineau from TVAS first reported the possibility of a trade that Sam Stejskal of The Athletic later confirmed.

Perhaps a change in scenery will be beneficial to both strikers. Mullins, 27, will be on to his fifth Eastern Conference team since being selected 11th overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution.

He spent one season with the Revs before two with then-expansion New York City FC. His best offensive output came with D.C. United, where he scored 13 goals in 34 appearances before a Secondary Transfer Window trade last July sent him to Columbus. He has one goal in 19 appearances, including just four starts with Crew SC.

Hamilton, 23, was one of the most prized products of the TFC youth academy, but hasn’t made the same impact on the senior level. He has 11 goals in 53 appearances over the course of six seasons.

His four goals this season mark a career-high. Hamilton, who was re-signed in January, has mostly come off the bench when Jozy Altidore was injured or on international duty.
