Columbus Crew SC have acquired forward Romario Williams from Atlanta United in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Monday.

Williams, 24, scored once in 19 league appearances for Atlanta since 2018, though he didn't make an MLS start for the club. He joined Atlanta in 2016 and spent the 2016-17 seasons on loan with the Charleston Battery. This season, Brandon Vazquez's emergence has limited Williams to just 37 minutes.

“We want to welcome Romario to Columbus Crew SC as he is a young forward who has already competed at an international level for Jamaica,” Crew president Tim Bezbatchenko said in a club statement. “In addition to his international experience, Romario is a player who is familiar with MLS and will provide us with depth in our attack.”

The Crew, battling a number of injuries as well as players gone at the Gold Cup, add to their attacking depth with the acquisition of Williams. The striker has scored twice in 13 caps with the Jamaican national team.

“Romario helped bring a championship to the city of Atlanta and will always be a part of the club’s first title-winning team,” Atlanta VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “We are grateful to Romario for his contribution to the club and wish him the very best for the future.”
