Colorado Rapids defender Kortne Ford will be sidelined for 8-10 weeks by a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee, the club announced on Wednesday, an injury he suffered during a scrimmage at the team’s training facility on Saturday.
The news marks a setback for the second-year Homegrown, who is also dealing with his mother's battle against terminal cancer, just as he seemed to have earned a starting role under new Rapids coach Anthony Hudson.
Ford started both of Colorado's CONCACAF Champions League matches as the Rapids fell 2-0 to Toronto FC on aggregate in the tournament's opening round. Colorado open their 2018 league campaign at New England on Sunday (1:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE; on DAZN in Canada).
