The short-lived relationship between Chivas USA and longtime Mexican national team veteran Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista officially ended on Tuesday, when the two sides mutually agreed to part ways.
A former Chivas de Guadalajara legend and an international with 38 career appearances with Mexico, the 34-year-old Bautista joined Chivas USA on March 9 and failed to score in any of his seven appearances with the club this season.
“We want to thank Adolfo Bautista for his dedication, commitment and professionalism during his time with our club,” Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabrera said in a statement. “He is a respected leader on and off the field, and we wish him the best of luck in all his endeavors moving forward.”
Bautista joined the team two months ago in need of conditioning, and said in March that “[MLS] is physical and they run a lot, so it will be important to adapt quickly.” He made just one start in his time with Chivas USA and logged 148 minutes, leaving assistant coach Paul Caffrey to tell MLSsoccer.com in April that, “At this point in his career, he’s not a 90-minute player.”
Said Cabrera last month: “Every time we use him, he tries and works hard. We’re waiting on him and counting that he brings his talent.”
