GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jorge Vergara accepted past errors in the running of Chivas Guadalajara and vowed to renew his efforts to improve the institution on Wednesday at a press conference here.
Although the Chivas USA owner didn’t mention the MLS franchise by name, Vergara’s message represented a marked change of tact from recent defiant pronouncements and could have significant repercussions for the Rebaño Angelino.
“I have to accept that, although in good faith, I have been wrong more than once in not doing the precise, the best and the ideal thing,” said Vergara, with the Chivas Guadalajara players and coaching staff present. “I confused desire, impulses, emotion and even arrogance with the good sense and judgment that was required.”
Vergara added that he is more determined to help the club succeed in the future, seemingly dissipating reoccurring rumors that both CD Guadalajara and Chivas USA may be sold.
The message comes at a time when Chivas Guadalajara are in second-to-last place in the Liga MX and Chivas USA at the cellar of MLS’ Western Conference, with both clubs struggling to attract fans to their games.
