The overhaul at Chivas USA continues.
A week after parting ways with 10 players and seeing sporting director Francisco “Paco” Palencia take the same position with their sister club, Chivas USA announced Monday that interim head coach José Luis “Guero” Real also would not return for the 2014 season and instead take the reins in Guadalajara, where he had a previous tenure.
Chivas USA are expected to name a replacement in the near future and plan to hold an introductory press conference at that time, a club spokesperson confirmed to MLSsoccer.com.
“We worked on the first stage of a project that will show results in three years,” Real told reporters in Guadalajara. “It’s been the most difficult stage. We, as much Paco Palencia as myself, left everything ready for the new season.”
Seventeen players made their MLS debuts for Chivas USA in 2013, including leading goalscorer Erick “Cubo” Torres. The inexperience, though, was a season-long issue for the Goats, even before Real took over for José Luis “El Chelís” Sánchez Solá in late May.
Real coached the Rojiblancos to a 3-12-6 record and never publicly voiced an intent to return next year.
