Charlotte FC have transferred midfielder Jordy Alcívar to Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle, the club announced Thursday.
The 23-year-old returns to his native country after one MLS season, featuring for Charlotte during their expansion campaign. CLTFC didn't disclose the transfer fee received, but they will get a percentage of any future sale of the player.
The deal also opens up an international slot on Charlotte's roster.
“Everyone at the club thanks Jordy for his time at Charlotte FC and wishes him the best throughout the rest of his career,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in an official statement.
“This move gives us added roster flexibility as we approach the winter transfer window to improve our squad ahead of the 2023 season.”
Alcívar, a product of LDU Quito who has one senior cap with Ecuador, made 20 appearances (10 starts) with Charlotte last season. He contributed one assist and a lone goal – an Olimpico vs. Atlanta United in April that was a 2022 AT&T 5G MLS Goal of the Year finalist.
Charlotte are entering their first full season under head coach Christian Lattanzio. They missed the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, finishing ninth in the Eastern Conference table.
