The Houston Dynamo have acquired forward Maxi Urruti from CF Montreal in exchange for defender Kiki Struna, the clubs announced Monday.
Urruti, who turns 30 next month, spent the last two seasons in Montreal where he had nine goals and eight assists in 46 appearances. The Argentine has been in MLS since 2013 and has 53 goals and 33 assists in eight seasons with Toronto, Portland, Dallas and Montreal.
“We are pleased the opportunity presented itself to add a proven winner like Maxi to our roster ahead of the 2021 season,” Dynamo GM Matt Jordan said in a club statement. “He’s been a big part of several championship winning teams in our league and he’ll immediately add competition and a winning mentality to our group.”
Struna, 30, spent the last two seasons in Houston, making 46 appearances at center back for the club. His future had been cloudy as he was linked with a move back to Italy this winter, but ends up with Montreal. Prior to coming to MLS, he played for Palermo in Italy.
“We are pleased to add a tall center back to our defensive core,” said Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard. “He has experience in MLS and on the international scene, and he’s played several years in Italy. I would like to thank Maxi for his two seasons with us and wish him the best of luck in Houston.”
