Doneil Henry is on the move again -- but this time, it’s to a familiar destination.
The 22-year-old West Ham United defender is heading out on a six-week loan to Blackburn Rovers, the club announced on Tuesday. It’s his second loan at Blackburn this year, after a spell toward the end of the 2014-15 season that ended in March with a serious hamstring injury.
Henry was the first member of the Toronto FC academy to sign with the club, and he’d go on to make 70 league appearances for the club before moving to Europe in January. He’s also made 14 appearances for Canada, but hasn’t appeared for the national team since last November, mostly due to his recovery from the hamstring injury.
But Henry appears to have finally made his way back, providing a boost not only to the Blackburn backline, but also to Canada’s defensive corps with a pair of big World Cup qualifiers against Mexico looming in March.
Henry is the second native of Brampton, Ontario to play for Blackburn in recent years; before him was Junior Hoilett, who played for Rovers’ senior team from 2007 to 2012.
