FC Dallas midfielder Bryan Acosta will be sidelined indefinitely after an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy Sunday afternoon, the club announced Monday.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeremy Carrasco at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. No timetable has been established regarding Acosta's return.
Acosta missed Sunday morning’s friendly against Austin Bold. His wife, Mavis Hernandez, tweeted on Sunday Acosta was about to get an appendectomy and later showed Acosta in recovery.
The 26-year-old Honduran international made 26 appearances, including 23 starts, with two goals and one assist in his first season with the club. He signed as a Designated Player after a transfer from Tenerife last January.
Acosta missed a pair of games last April with an ankle injury and three additional midseason matches while with Honduras at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
While it’s unknown how long Acosta will be sidelined, if he does miss any regular season games, FC Dallas have ample options in the center of midfield with Brandon Servania, Paxton Pomykal, Edwin Cerrillo and Thomas Roberts all capable of playing in that spot.
