Free agent Brek Shea will be joining MLS Cup champions Atlanta United for the 2019 season, signing a one-year deal with the club.
The 28-year-old veteran, who has featured at left back and left wing, will be joining his fourth MLS club, most recently spending two seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps, who did not pick up his option following the 2018 season.
FC Dallas drafted Shea No. 2 overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft and he broke out with the Texas club, becoming a US national team player during five seasons before heading overseas.
After two years in England with Stoke City, Barnsley and Birmingham City, Shea returned to MLS with Orlando City for their 2015 expansion season. The Lions traded Shea to Vancouver in February 2017 in exchange for Giles Barnes.
Known for his powerful attacking runs down the left flank, Shea's best season came in 2011 with FC Dallas, when he was an All-Star, an MLS Best XI selection and an MVP finalist. He has earned 34 caps with the senior U.S. national team with his last appearance coming in October 2015.
Shea represents the second free agent addition of the offseason for the Five Stripes after the team re-signed captain Michael Parkhurst.
