TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trialist
Bradley Wright-Phillips has started preseason ahead of what he hopes is his eighth Major League Soccer season.
For the first time, though, it’s not with the New York Red Bulls.
The two-time MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi winner is with Los Angeles Football Club, which opened camp Monday. The 34-year-old forward is out of contract following an injury-plagued 2019 season.
At the conclusion of a season in which he had just two goals and four assists with nine starts in 24 appearances, BWP said he wasn’t ready to hang up his boots and had not entertained the thought of retirement.
He removed himself from the MLS Re-Entry Draft and reportedly was passed on by the New England Revolution.
Wright-Phillips is the quickest player in league history to score 100 league goals and the first to score 20 goals or more in three different seasons.
