Brad Smith is only currently slated to stay with the Seattle Sounders until June 30. Then, his loan would end and the player would return to Premier League outfit Bournemouth.
But Smith would prefer to stay with the Sounders, and it would appear the move would be beneficial to all parties. Smith has been a regular member of the Sounders' starting XI while Bournemouth elected not to recall the left back this January when they had the option.
For now, Smith will continue his soccer while Seattle and Bournemouth discuss his future.
“I think it’s definitely possible for me to stay," Smith said on Sounders Weekly. "I would like to see the season out. I think we’ve got a great group this year and I think we can do some special things. But I haven’t heard anything personally from that side of it, but I think the clubs will be speaking soon-ish, rather than later, to kind of work out what we’re going to do.”
Smith, 24, made six appearances last season after joining in August and has started each of the club's first three games to start 2019. The Sounders have won all three matches and Smith has provided one assist.
He and the Sounders return to action Saturday against Cascadia Cup rivals Vancouver Whitecaps (10 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, TSN in Canada).
