Although both dos Santos are currently nursing minor injuries, it appears each will be healthy in time for the LA Galaxy's inaugural derby match against LAFC on March 31 (3 pm ET | FOX — full TV & Streaming Information).
LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano reported on Tuesday that the injury that canceledJonathan dos Santos' Mexican national team call-up doesn't appear serious, though it will keep him out of action this weekend in Vancouver.
“He said he felt great going into [the match], but it was just enough to keep him out of the Mexican camp and the match this weekend,” Schmid said on Tuesday. “But we expect him back for LAFC.”
Giovani dos Santos is already out with a hamstring injury he picked up in LA's 2-1 loss at New York City FC in Week 2. That was scheduled to keep him out 1-3 weeks, which should also have him back by Week 5, though perhaps in a limited role.
“It’s somewhere in between one and three weeks. We just have to see,” Schmid said last week. “He wants to get back out there and play. We just have to do the best that we can do in terms of getting him ready. He injured himself in the game at about the 25th minute and tried to play through it. "It shows his character that he wanted to try to contribute, but we said at halftime that it was better to take him out. It rules him out for Mexico at this stage, but hopefully, we’ll get him back in time for the LAFC game [on March 31].”
If the brothers are healthy for the first-ever match between the two LA clubs, they'll see a familiar face in an away shirt at the StubHub center in El Tri teammate Carlos Vela.
