CJ Sapong is no longer the only player from the Philadelphia Union who will be hoping to represent his country later this month.
The Union announced on Friday that Haris Medunjanin has been called up by Bosnia and Herzegovina for the European nation's upcoming friendlies against the US national team and Mexico. Bosnia and Herzegovina will first face the US at StubHub Center in Carson, California, on Jan. 28 before taking on Mexico in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, three days later.
“It is always a pleasure to play for your country, especially when you get to play against the United States,” said Medunjanin in a statement released by the Union. “The fact that Bosnia is looking at MLS shows that they appreciate the league because of its high level of soccer here in North America.”
The 32-year-old Medunjanin, who started in all 34 games for Philadelphia in his debut MLS season in 2017, has earned 56 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina to date. He has scored nine international goals.
Should he see the field against the US, he could lock horns with Union teammate Sapong. The veteran forward was named as part of a 30-man US roster for the Bosnia and Herzegovina friendly.
